A Front Garden Makeover with Weathering Steel Landscape Edging and Layered Planting.
Retic Renovations recently completed a front garden renovation featuring Formline Weathering Steel Landscape Edging supplied by Stratagreen. Along with upgrading the reticulation, they rebuilt the soil, restructured the irrigation system, and created soft garden beds with a mix of hardy, climate-appropriate plants.
The new layout includes Crepe Myrtle trees, Dichondra βSilver Fallsβ as a trailing groundcover, Lomandra for structure and texture, and compact Pittosporum βMiss Muffetβ plants to anchor the corners. The garden beds were fertilised on installation using Troforte, and the existing lawn was top dressed and reticulated to help it recover after the works.
One of the standout elements is the Formline Weathering Steel Landscape Edging. Formline, is a robust, with a weathering steel that starts its rusting process almost immediately after installation. It provides clear structure and definition without relying on built retaining or limestone borders.
Luke from Retic Renovationβs says, βWhat made this job satisfying from an installation perspective was how easily the edging bent and followed the curves of the garden layout. Compared to other steel edging products, this was significantly easier to shape without force. Itβs held in place with large, galvanised pins, and the lengths connect using steel connector plates. These plates are pop-riveted or screwed together to form strong, clean joints that hold their line once everythingβs in place.β
This kind of edging is a practical way to build up garden beds quickly and cleanly, especially when youβre after a layered, flowing garden without hard structural borders. Once the Dichondra trails over the edge and the lawn comes back, this space will have a soft but well-defined look β just the right balance for a front garden in Perth.
