FAQ
General Inquiries
It’s appearance is a highly convincing timber decking board, with realistic wood grain, tone and texture. This look is achieved through a process of hand-moulding genuine timber boards, which are then hand-tinted, making each piece of Millboard unique.
Millboard composite decking is made from a revolutionary Polyurethane resin, reinforced with mineral fibres plus a unique Lastane® coating. So what is Polyurethane then? It’s a type of elastomer, which is a polymer about half way between a plastic and a rubber. It maintains the rigidity & longevity of plastic, with the suppleness of rubber. This means Millboard feels much more natural under foot, while still offering incredible durability.
Millboard is extremely versatile and can be used in practically every outdoor space. Create decks, balconies, roof gardens, boardwalks, bridges, pontoons, seating, steps, screening, planters and more.
To recreate the aesthetic of natural colour variation, Millboard intentionally adds secondary toning colours. There may be variance within the same board or from board to board in colour tone. This means that samples cut from boards may vary from the general colour of the boarding. Whilst every care is taken to ensure consistency some colour variation from batch to batch may occur. To avoid this, we recommend that you order all you need in one delivery. If you do have different batches it is best to mix the batches to blend the colours.
Millboard has a very high resistance to fading, this is because it contains no wood fibres which typically fade and leach tannins. Millboard has been UV Stability tested to BS EN ISO 4892-2: 2006 with a result of 2% LRV (shift over 5000hrs) (Exceptional). As with all things constantly exposed to ultra violet light and all weathers, especially in Australia’s extreme conditions, colours will tone slightly in time. On delivery if you find the colour unacceptable or believe them to be defective in any way, do not install the boards.
There will always be a slight variance in the board’s dimensions due to the fact that we mould from natural oak, and due to the pressure of the moulding process. Despite this, we calibrate the boards to maintain as consistent a profile as possible. The manufacturing tolerances are: Width: ± 3mm. Length: ± 5mm. Thickness: ± 2mm. The dimensions of the Weathered Oak style may vary more between moulds due to the fact that they are moulded from timeworn oak with minimal changes to the dimensions. When working with the boards, packers may be required to create a flush finish between two boards. Dimensional variation is also possible with our Our Envello® cladding boards and therefore the same manufacturing tolerances are applicable (Width: ± 3mm. Length: ± 5mm. Thickness: ± 2mm). When using our Shadow Line product, in order to achieve straight and consistent 6mm gapping between boards, it may be necessary to use our Millboard Multi-Spacers during the installation process. For further details please refer to our Envello® Cladding Installation and User Guidance in the Help & Advice section of our website.
Millboards are manufactured with non-porous material, meaning that it doesn’t absorb moisture. This makes it highly stain resistant. Do not use any kind of solvent, chemicals, abrasive cleaners, sanding, sealing wax or oil, or even any household cleaners! A simple brush down and rinse with some soapy water is all that’s needed to clean Millboards. There is no need for pressure wash as there are no pours for dirt to become ingrained in! If that wasn’t low maintenance enough, unlike traditional timber or even common Wood/Plastic composites, Millboard decking also doesn’t contain any timber, flour or husk fibres (which all have sugars in them), so Millboard will not host algae or mould growth. Decking Inquiries
Millboard composite decking is hand-made in the United Kingdom & styled from real oak timbers, creating an incredible realistic look that captures the natural beauty of wood. But unlike traditional timber – which needs regular on-going maintenance like oiling & sanding to try and stave off rotting, mould, stains, warping, cupping, fading, splinters & a host of other undesirable effects – Millboard is totally different! This is because unlike traditional timber, or even conventional composite decking WPC (which typically contain half timber fibre / flours / rice husks & half plastic) – Millboard contains no timber, nor any plastic.
Millboard is chemically inert & does not contain any timber so the boards will not absorb moisture, swell, warp or rot in the way that timber does. As such Millboard does not require any ventilation or minimum clearance from the ground making it perfect solution for ultra-low decks.
Joist spacing of 400mm centres is recommended for normal residential application. On commercial and public areas including any stairs use 300mm spacing. If you need to cut Millboard down along the length, then reduce the joist centres accordingly. A Minimum of 3 joists are needed for any cut boards. When laying 45 degrees to the joist we recommend a maximum of 300mm centres and 240mm centres on commercial applications. For full installation guidelines please refer to the documentation available for download from the Installation Guidelines page.
Fixing Millboard couldn’t be simpler! There are no fiddly and expensive clipping systems, no pre-drilling nor any countersinking required. Millboard decking is simply top fixed like real timber – But with an incredible “lost-head” hidden fixing. The Lastane® layer self heals over the screws to leave a near indistinguishable mark for a clean finish! After extensive testing we recommend and supply Durafix Stainless Steel screws for the best results. See videos of the screws disappearing.

Yes, Millboard is perfectly suited for use as roof decking. For a single ply membrane roof, use our adjustable self-levelling head pedestal systems to avoid any point loading and raise the joists above any standing water, so prolonging their life while also acting to reduce sound transfer. Our pedestal systems allow water to flow freely across and then off the roof membrane
'Millboard Envello cladding has no fire rating, the responsibility for the cladding’s suitability in the required location is to be determined by a certified building professional (building control officer, building insurance, fire officer, etc).'
